Our Name

The name "Athanasia" combines two rich sources of inspiration and identity for our founder.

ATHANASIUS of Alexandria was a 4th century leader, scholar, theologian, and advocate for truth and identity. Educated and fluent in multiple languages, Athanasius engaged skillfully across multiple cultural, intellectual, and philosophical fields. He's most famous for resisting Arian ideologies that undermined the uniqueness of divine and human identities. Athanasius stood for the beautiful connection between uniqueness and unity in a way that resonates still today.

The modified ending "ASIA" of course gestures towards Greg's own Asian American identity - but more broadly, to the importance of our distinct heritages, identities, and stories no matter what they are and the dream of being empowered and whole no matter our histories. Whatever your background, makeup, or story, we're excited to help shed light on how to make an impact.
